Development Studies in Geography

Development Studies in Geography focus on the analysis of societies' development processes and their influencing factors. The perspective is multi-dimensional and multi-level, ranging from the "local" to the "global" spheres.

The specific strength of Development Studies in Geography is its consideration of the relationships of human and environmental factors as well as the spatial distribution and connection of factors influencing development processes. Development Studies in Geography, therefore, constitutes an interface between social and natural sciences.

The Team The Chair

The Chair of Development Studies in Geography at Bayreuth University deals particularly with applied research on development problems in Sub-Sahara Africa and resultant effects in Europe.

Our thematic emphasis is on applied urban research and the analysis of urbanization - in particular on housing and issues of rural-urban migration, governance of urban areas and regions as well as regional rural development.
